How To Quantify The User Experience

Many look to the user experience as an overall indicator of Website success. Analyzing how effectively a Website provides for a net positive user experience can often turn into a subjective affair, rife with opinion and short on objectivity.

This article outlines a quick-and-dirty methodology for quantifying the user experience, which I've found to be very useful in providing clients with a quick, objective, visual representation of where their site stands vis-à-vis the competition or past development efforts.

What is the User Experience?

The term "user experience" refers to a concept that places the end-user at the focal point of design and development efforts, as opposed to the system, its applications or its aesthetic value alone. It's based on the general concept of user-centered design.

The user experience is primarily made up of a four factors:

Independently, none of these factors makes for a positive user experience; however, taken together, these factors constitute the main ingredients for a website's success.


Take, for example, a brilliantly designed site that routinely gives server errors, or times-out. Or imagine a fantastic, database-driven application that, for some reason or other, is never used because it's buried deep within the bowels of the site's information architecture. In both cases, we see that the independent elements of branding, usability, functionality and content structure aren't necessarily indicative of a site's success. Yet, when taken together, these core elements provide the basis for the user experience.

The Need for an Objective Analysis Tool

Say you've got a new lead -- they're unhappy with their Website in its current form and want you to help steer the site in the right direction. If you're like me, the first thing you'll do is take a look at the site and make some cursory mental notes. How then do you convey these ideas and notes back to the client without simply ripping the current site apart?

The problem is that each of our perceptions of how 'good' or 'bad' a Website is, is skewed by our personal backgrounds and specialties within the industry. Asked to evaluate a Website's benefits and constraints, a developer, usability professional, designer or information architect may come up with an entirely different critique.

An objective tool for measurement and analysis helps you provide your clients with fact-based recommendations, as opposed to mere conjecture and opinion. The methodology we'll explore in this article will help you to:

  • Remove your personal preferences (subjectivity) from the equation as much as possible.
  • Enable persons with different backgrounds (designers, developers, clients) to share a common understanding of the site.
  • Create ground rules for comparisons of the site to those of competitors, or past development efforts.
  • Provide your clients with a fact-based, visual representation of their site's benefits and limitations.
Measuring the User Experience

As mentioned above, the user experience is made up of four interdependent elements:

  • branding
  • usability
  • functionality
  • content

But, how can we quantify and measure these seemingly intangible elements?

The methodology is quite simple. We separate our analysis into four sections -- one for each of the four elements of the user experience. For each of these elements, we create a series of statements or parameters against which the Website in question will be measured. A scale of 1 to X is created for each of the statements; we give each statement a score within this range.

Once you've completed this first part of the analysis, you should have a score for each of the statements in each of the four sections.

In the sample analysis attached to this article, we only used five statements or parameters for each element. Consequently, we work with a 20-point scale, so that the maximum total score of the site is 100. So, if we added an extra five statements or parameters to each element, we'd rate each on a 10-point scale.

Below, find a brief explanation of each of the elements and the statements or parameters used in the sample analysis.

Branding

Branding includes all the aesthetic and design-related items within a Website. It entails the site's creative projection of the desired organizational image and message. Statements used to measure branding can include:

  • The site provides visitors with an engaging and memorable experience.
  • The visual impact of the site is consistent with the brand identity.
  • Graphics, collaterals and multimedia add value to the experience.
  • The site delivers on the perceived promise of the brand.
  • The site leverages the capabilities of the medium to enhance or extend the brand.

Functionality

Functionality includes all the technical and 'behind the scenes' processes and applications. It entails the site's delivery of interactive services to all end users, and it's important to note that this sometimes means both the public as well as administrators. Statements used to measure a site's functionality can include:

  • Users receive timely responses to their queries or submissions.
  • Task progress is clearly communicated (e.g., success pages or email updates).
  • The Website and applications adhere to common security and privacy standards.
  • Online functions are integrated with offline business processes.
  • The site contains administration tools that enhance administrator efficiency.

Usability

Usability entails the general ease of use of all site components and features. Sub-topics beneath the usability banner can include navigation and accessibility. Statements used to measure usability might include:

  • The site prevents errors and helps the user recover from them.
  • Overall page weight is optimized for the main target audience.
  • The site helps its visitors accomplish common goals and tasks.
  • The site adheres to its own consistency and standards.
  • The site provides content for users with disabilities.

Content

Content refers to the actual content of the site (text, multimedia, images) as well as its structure, or information architecture. We look to see how the information and content are structured in terms of defined user needs and client business requirements. Statements used to measure content can include:

  • Link density provides clarity and easy navigation.
  • Content is structured in a way that facilitates the achievement of user goals.
  • Content is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Content is appropriate to customer needs and business goals.
  • Content across multiple languages is comprehensive.

In most instances, I use from 10-20 separate statements for each of these four elements. I suggest you use the statements above as a basis for creating your own analysis. Remember that if you add more statements, you must also refine the 20-point scale so that each element's total score is 100. For example, if you used 10 statements for each element, then your rating scale would be 1-10. If you used 20 statements for each element, your scale would be 1-5.

Displaying Your Results

Once you've completed your analysis and have values for each of the statements or parameters, it's time to put this data into a clear, communicative format.

The first thing we want to do is add up all the values for each element. Because we've set the point scale to provide with a maximum score of 100 for each element, what we really have is a percentage score. Once we have these percentage values, what I've found works best is to create a Spider chart to visually represent them. Microsoft's Excel or Open Office Calc both work well here, although any spreadsheet program with graphing capabilities will do.

Using your spreadsheet program, you can generate a host of visual representations of the data. See the sample file you downloaded above for more examples.

Get Creative with Your Analysis

The great thing about the analysis and methods described in this article is that they can be catered to your specific client or project needs.

There's no reason why you couldn't add a fifth category to the analysis to describe accessibility or business metrics. For example, say you've got a government client that needs to adhere to Section 508 regulations (for the U.S.). You could easily create a set of statements or parameters that deal exclusively with the accessibility element, modifying your charts to display accordingly. Likewise, it would be very easy to create a category that deals exclusively with your client's important business metrics, for example, ROI, click-through rates, conversions, or repeat customers.

Alternatively, this platform of analysis can enable you to add greater weight to particular elements of your choice. Say you have a client who's a luxury goods manufacturer, and is heavily focused on branding and look and feel. There's no reason why you couldn't create a modified measurement system that gave greater weight to the branding elements and less to, say, the usability elements.

Practical Uses

I've incorporated this analysis into a number of different projects on which I've worked. Often, I include a 'quick and dirty' analysis as an appendix to a new client proposal, to provide the prospective clients a snapshot view of where their site stands vis-à-vis the competition.

Providing this kind of review also gives you an excellent chance to display your professionalism. Chances are that other firms bidding on the RFP in question will not include such 'free' consulting services -- and your inclusion of this report in your proposal may be a decisive factor in your favor.

In other instances, I've had clients pay for an in-depth analysis of their site complete with recommendations. This type of report includes, for each of the statements or parameters, several descriptive paragraphs complete with examples or screen shots. If I'm ultimately hired to follow through on my recommendations, I often schedule another evaluation six months after the launch of the site as a means of showing improvement, while at the same time reinforcing the value of my services.

This type of analysis can also serve as a gateway project that leads to further business. If you price the analysis well, it can be a great tool for getting your foot in the door and showing the new client the benefits of your services.

Magic Fairy Tales as Source for Interface Metaphors

1. Introduction

This work is devoted to a problem of search of metaphors for interactive systems and systems based on Virtual Reality (VR) environments.

Metaphors play a significant role while designing, and also help users to master interface opportunities with ease. Sometimes the success or failure of system depends on successful choice of metaphors.

However researchers have started to complain of rarity of interface metaphors already in early 90-s’ years when development of visual interactive systems were anywise a novelty. (See [1].) In our opinion one may find a lot of sources of metaphors, but it is necessary to search these sources by some criteria. We suggest to consider magic fairy tales and popular fantasy novels (using a set of characters, concepts and situations similar to the magic fairy tales) as one of sources of computer metaphors. Thus, we are interested with “magic” ideas i.e. ideas of miraculous actions, positions, things and events that are impossible in reality. These ideas are useful to create interface and visualization metaphors and to develop new techniques for dealing in virtual environments. Note that VR may demand wide diversity of magic metaphors, because in fact it is a real (“not magic”) magic. Even superficial analysis shows that at times magic in fairy tales extends possibilities and features of realistic objects and characters and at other times fairy tales describe occurrences being in marked contrast to everyday routine. Both cases are interesting in connection with metaphors searching. Moreover VR also at times augments user’s means, and at other times transfers users to new worlds.

Magic ideas described in fantasy novels or in literary processed folklore fairy tales are the most worked and consequently the most useful for our purposes.

Interface metaphor is considered as the basic idea of likening between interactive objects and model objects of the application domain. Its role is to promote the best understanding of semantics of interaction, and also to determine the visual representation of dialog objects and a set of user manipulations with them. A metaphor, considered as a basis of the sign system, underlies in a basis of a dialog language in its turn. User formulates the problem with the help of this language and achieves its solving from the computer. The metaphor helps to describe abstraction, structures understanding of new applied area, but also assigns dialog [visual] language objects.

We understand interface metaphors in broadened sense, not subdividing them onto metaphors, analogies, idioms or metonymies. These divisions are important for the metaphor theory, but are not necessary for our consideration. Interface metaphors may be considered as a special case of scientific metaphor used for generation of new or additional senses to understand new facts and phenomena. The understanding of an interface metaphor as an usage only everyday and well-known (often technical) realities is unsatisfactory and even wrong for several reasons [2], [3].

2. Related Works

The problems of metaphor design, as well as formalizations of their search and/or generations were repeatedly considered in the literature. The idea of automated creation of visual metaphors and corresponding visualization systems was proposed.

Interest to “magic” in connection with HCI and interface metaphors was showed in early 90-s’ years. The significant attention has been given to “Magic Features” conception. This conception in the context of HCI was introduced for the first time by A. Kay. [4]. In the literature (also by A. Kay) some theoretical approaches to problems of HCI magic were considered and some examples were given (see [5-9]. “Magic Features” are considered as important for HCI. The authors of the works [6-8] emphasized especially that metaphors doesn’t preclude magic. Obviously, if to consider metaphors not only as usage everyday things and everyday entities then magic may be a part of interface metaphors. The word “magic” is very popular as a part of metaphoric names for interface techniques – for example “magic lens”, “magic mirror”, “magic lancet”, etc. In [10] a number of specific examples from stage magic is presented and application of its principles and techniques in human interface design is discussed. The article [11] is devoted to sources of metaphor for tangible user interfaces. Authors suppose magic and paranormal phenomena could be a fruitful place to look for new metaphors for tangible user interfaces. Also Voodoo magic is considered as an interesting idea for interfaces with virtual objects. In [12] Voodoo dolls technique is used as a two-handed interaction technique for manipulating objects at a distance in immersive virtual environments.

Ideas for interface metaphor design, linked with magic fairy tales, fantasy and science fiction novels, are described in a number of articles. In [5] for example the fantastic metaphor of flying carpet is mentioned, but in [13] the metaphor of the magic carpet is realized for instant moving in the virtual reality environment. In [14 ] [15] and [16] usages of “magic wand” are described. Magic wand is considered as a manipulation metaphor to form an interface in systems with elements of virtual reality. Interesting ideas of wonder objects (for example, magic mirror) were proposed (and realized in prototype variants) for storytelling in the modern museum [17]. In [3] the information system using a City Metaphor is described. In this system magic/fantastic opportunities are used on regular basis. Among these opportunities there is the “Tunneling through space” presenting the typical adoption from Science Fiction. Also rooms with “magic windows” may be considered as a magic (science fiction) feature. “Magic window” is an interesting expansion of a well-known Information Wall metaphor.

On our opinion the metaphors adopted from magic fairy tales, science fiction and fantasy novels are more preferable than the metaphors constructed on the basis of complex and gloomy magic rituals and Voodoo techniques.

Two famous book of Russian scientist Vladimir Propp (Morphology of the Folk Tale and The Historical Roots of the Wonder Tale) are devoted to fairy tales. (See translation one of them into English in [18].) In this work the sets of fantastic situations, characters (among them - the hero, the false hero, the assistant, the wrecker) and the structure of magic fairy tales are explored in detail, and also their connection with the basic ancient myths is shown.

In fairy tales of different nations one can find very interesting sets of “magic features”. In the following sections we consider, what is behind this conception and how magic may be useful when searching of metaphors for interactive systems and systems based on virtual reality environments.

3. Magic. What is this?

Here we consider fantastic magic, selecting samples that are fruitful for interface and virtual reality metaphors.

Magic transport. In fairy tales and fantastic novels one can find:

A. Teleportation - instant carry by means of verbal influence (spell) or by means of manipulations with any objects or uses of such devices as teleports;

B. Rather slow moving by means of magic transport. A magic transfer may take place both for subjects, and for (animated and inanimate) objects of magic. (See the Pic 1 as the example of the flying carpet.)

Magic navigation means - for example, the milestone with magic legend ( see as the illustration the picture of Russian painter Victor Vasnetsov “A Knight at Crossroads” - Pic. 2) or the magic clew, following to which one may reach up Fairland.

Magic communications means. An example - the magic mirror tuned on the interesting character for his/her protection or observation.

Wonderful (additional to normal) opportunities on manipulations with objects, processes and even natural phenomena. In some variants - superforce, invulnerability, etc. Generally speaking one can use the term “magic power” (or “superpower”). These manipulations and power may be carried out through spells and objective magic, and also through the universal manipulator - a magic wand. (See Pic. 3-4 as the examples of magic wand using in the films about Harry Potter.)

One can set off the general class of the magic objects as objects possessing “magic properties”. Thus it is possible the magic expansion of usual functionality (seven-league boots), as well as attributing to object of additional, unusual in reality functions (for example Aladdin’s Wonderful Lamp used for a call, activization and neutralization of magic beings – see Pic 5.). For a designation of the magic objects used as manipulators, transport and communication means one can use also the term “magic tools”.

Magic transformations of objects. As an example one can consider the construction of palaces by Jinnee in the Arabic fairy tale or transformation a pumpkin into the carriage for Cinderella.

Similarly to magic objects magic subjects may be set off, i.e. evil, good or neutral (with respect to heroes) magicians possessing super opportunities. (As a variant - magic anthropomorphic beings, for example, fairies, gnomes, trolls, jinn, etc.)

Magic transformations of persons. In fairy tales such transformations may be spontaneous, unexpected for the characters, or transformations may be results of magic actions (some magic spells or manipulations). These transformations can be carried out in view of sympathetic magic (that is magic based on some similarity).

4. What does practice show?

Our attention was involved with two “magic-fantastic” metaphors from the novels (and also the films) about Harry Potter. These are Speaking and Moving Portraits and the Map on which shifts of persons under observation are visible. In this case portraits of dead persons are the active objects. They may address to alive characters of the novel without requests, and even pass from one portrait framework to another to do a visit to each other. The map continuously traces and shows the site of an observable person.

There are a lot of active, anthropomorphic and speaking characters in fairy tales and in science fiction novels such as Golem, robots of K. Capek and I. Asimov, and so on. Similarly there are various variants of magic/fantastic means of navigation and searching both in fairy tales, and in a fantasy.

In these magic metaphors visualness is not so important then spontaneous activity inherent in generated objects and subjects. Spontaneous activity can be considered as means to imitate reasonable behavior. It is necessary also subjectness of characters (i.e. their existence independently of users) to imitate reasonable behavior. In the fantastic and popular scientific literature and films such active computer “subjects” have appeared some decade ago. In modern computer practice agents who are active under own initiative, frequently cause irritation. We have been started our research of active intellectual agents to understand what, why and where have to do active intellectual agents.

The idea of the “active” map showing a real landscape and movings of objects on it was considered. “Activity” of a map can be connected to events, the same type, as well as in navigating systems - travel of this or that district, turn, crossing and so forth, but “activity” can be and “spontaneous”, connected with time events. The other idea may be possible – the development of the “active” scheme of a protected apartment or territory. In this case tracking systems and the “marked” persons may be necessary. Movings of all without exception persons may be shown on the scheme, and labels allow to identify them. In connection with the given ideas it is possible to note, that works in the given direction on the basis of systems such as GPS are actively carried out, and there are examples of the interactive maps which are performing roles of guide-adviser. Also now it is easy to develop speaking anthropomorphic agents-avatars, and there are a lot of examples of such realizations.

We have decided to connect the idea of active agents constructed on a metaphor of the speaking portrait, with the expert system. The point is that the active agent with its (possible) importunate activity is warranted almost only in case of learning systems. The logic of project development led us to the next idea the idea of “active textbook” [19]. This textbook have to be able to analyze the pupil behavior during textbook studying, for example, time of reading, manipulations with the text and so on. Basing on these analyses “active textbook” may detail teaching material, search new data sources or turn to other things. The analysis of a user behavior may be realized at a syntactic level (at a level of operations with the mouse and the keyboard, eye tracking, etc.), and on semantic one (monitoring of opened files or sites, applications under execution, recording of events, etc.) Such analyses and elements of programming by demonstrations will allow our system to learn to teach during the process of its using and to operate in the given direction “independently”. Also it is possible to supply the system by means adviser functions. The system will be like clever human being – adviser and will not impose the opinion, but will prepare pieces of advice and decisions. The human-like behavior may be provide by psychologically caused braking of the system activity.

In the visualization systems constructed on the basis of virtual reality environments, there are the tasks where complex manipulations with objects are necessary, for example, to pull out something, to cut or to zoom. As a metaphor of the tool for such tasks, first of all the idea of a magic wand comes into designer’s on mind. But a magic wand has not differentiated action and hence requires means to change modes of operating. In the specialized systems it is more natural to use specialized “magic tools”.

For example, in medical information system as manipulator’s metaphor the idea of “magic lancet” is offered. “Lancet” allows “to dissects” this or that organism area for the profound exploring. During any human organism object “dissecting”, all physical changes are visualized, as if we did it in a reality. In case of a combination the “magic lancet” metaphor with three-dimensional model of human body, one may obtain the virtual model of operations and the prototype system of information visualization for the medical purposes is under construction now. Systems based on this metaphor may be used for example for surgery learning [20].

5. Conclusions

Our preliminary research shows the applicability of “magic” metaphors for tasks in the interactive systems and systems basing on virtual reality environments. For example, the search of metaphors of moving in virtual environments may be needed magic transportation techniques, such as teleports and flights of various types (the flying carpet, the flying ship, Roc, a winged horse). And metaphors of intellectual agents-informants may be based on magic means of navigation.

In fairy tales and fantastic novels one can find a lot of the magic phenomena, such as magic knowledge, war magic, fulfillments of desires, telepathy and thought-reading, etc. But we yet don’t know definitely, whether these feature useful for searching of metaphors. Though for a choice of metaphors for manipulations with objects and processes in virtual environments “the war magic” may be interesting. The war magic is connected with transferring the events which have place in magic space into reality. For example, any variations of “a magic chess”, where games with chess-men are transferred into land battles, or the “naval” military magic where models of fight in a vat with water are transferred into sea battles. These ideas (partly close to Voodoo magic) one may find in a number of folk and literary fairy tales.Let’s pay attention that folk fairy tales are governed by rigorous logic of a plot development and a choice of characters. By the way, in literary fairy tales and fantasy novels, as a rule, this logic is observed. The analysis shows, that very exotic “magic” metaphors may be useful to form any interface features. However realization of interactive systems on their base may be as complex as contradictory. Magic metaphors are frequently transformed to abstract interface opportunities, not keeping the appreciable connection with initial ideas. For example, in case of Speaking Portrait metaphor the anthropomorphness of an agent turned out not necessary. But there is necessary to endow it the function of the magic assistant, - conductor into the world of knowledge. Of course the transmuted abstractness of metaphors is an advantage, than a defect of their use.

In the systems created for example for office automation or for end-user programming the presence of magic interface manuals may appear as distracting or even irritating factor. However use such “magic features” as automatic returning electronic analogs of paper documents on its place after the ending of processing (see [21]) may be carried out without any special warnings even for users - non-specialists. Such features are well conformed to common sense of clerks and does not demand unnecessary efforts during operations. Infringement of magic logic due to any absurd ideas or to farfetched subjective likeness may lead to serious mistakes. The sharp criticism of interface metaphors, as such, is connected to infringement of magic logic in early variant Apple’s interface (using the trash can metaphor to eject disks) [4].

Here we go again...another fool...

Here we go again, another fool trying to disprove the authenticity of the gospel and of Jesus Christ. It was Dan Brown a few months ago, now this super fool James Cameron comes out with a new findings/documentary. It's funny that Cameron refuses to violate the real Titanic as a kind of graveyard, but has no problem desecrating coffins and such in this case.

This absolutely nonsense & ridiculous, how can they claim to identify the DNA from Jesus? They could maybe get some DNA from the 2000 year-old skeletons (it's hard, but sometimes possible to obtain just a little DNA, usually damaged, though), but how can they say it is from the Jesus of the New Testament? I don't think anyone can seriously make that kind of scientific claim.

what are these guys, where from these guys come from? where from these ideas come from? what are they trying to prove, it necessary to dig out such baseless things after 2000 yrs n present it the world.

Jesus taught us some good moral things in life not the bad things, Christ taught us to be compassionate to other, to forgive others, to be tolerant, generous, kind, selfless, repentance, sacrificing. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” “For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Majority of the world follows Christianity, What if people/world didn't follow Jesus teachings, i'm sure world would have been much much more cruel & ruthless place to live, world would have been experiencing more wars, killings, corruption, all sorts of evil things happening around you, n people living without any moral values.

These guys, just to make some extra money and to earn fame, they are contesting & challenging GOD? these guys are insane. I'm sure James Cameron must be aiming for an Oscar Award for this documentary, its been a long time he won an Oscar. These guys surely belong to Satan's Anti Christ family!

After all this, i think, we need to relax, this will die down in a few days...

Christians are not Shaken by james cameron or dan brown or any other tom, dick & harry. there have been lot of attempts along the centuries to disprove the authenticity of the gospel and of Christ, and they have FAILED!

i wonder if anyone will make/write a post once cameron is shown to be a fool. he's from hollywood guys, land of make-believe :-))

Yeah, after one year from the release of the movie, i watched the movie yesterday, overall movie was good, good to see Stallone boxing and this cool accent.

I liked the conversation between Rocky and this son, when Rocky decides to fight again and his son doesn't want him to fight. Dialogues said by Rocky towards the end of the conversation are truly inspiring words of wisdom and r fact of life. Watch the movie below...

500 Roses

this is about my one of a kind valentines day experience.
i remember, i did delivery boy job/help for my friend who was in US at that time.

the story goes like this, 3 yrs back, one of my friend who was in US, he wanted me to deliver 500 roses to his girl-friend who stays in hyderabad. imagine how would i take/carry 500 roses to his girl friends place! on top of it where should i order 500 roses!

i had to contact 15-20 florist shops to order 500 roses, no person was ready to take up the order for 500 roses, that too on valentines day!!, coz there's a lot of demand for roses on that day.

finally one lady florist agreed to take the order after a lot of request/begging :-)) i ordered for the roses 2 days before the valentines day, so the day came, i went to florist shop to pick up the roses, the shop was full of people buying flowers, it was a awkward situation for me, everybody was looking at me, some were laughing, some were looking at me with there mouths open wide...some were looking at me with a strange face...

so many roses!! it actually took 3 people to carefully load them into a auto rickshaw... even the rickshaw guy was smiling at me sarcastically, i got the roses loaded in auto rickshaw, there no place left for me to sit inside the auto, so i had to escort the roses/auto on my bike...at last i was off from the florist shop to delivery the roses.

the next challenge was finding her place, it was some interior place on other side of the city, it was really difficult to find her place , it took me 3 hrs to just find her residence address... i was thinking to give up, but there was no way i could take those 500 roses back home... :-)) and besides, it was friendship that made finish the job on hand...yeah one more thing, i had to buy a greeting card also for her n write some romantic stuff on it behalf of my friend, of course the matter was sent me by my friend thru email.

and finally when i found her address/place, to my surprise, she stays in a working women's hostel kinda place, its a 2 stored independent house. when i landed up in that place with 500 roses, some 100 female eyes where giving me a piercing & curious looks, who is this fool with some many flowers :-))) then i asked one of the girl to call my friends girl friend n dumped those 500 roses at her place n said these r sent by uday (my friend) to U...after that, i just ran from that awkward spot...

yes, people out of friendship, do such things/helps :-))

When and Why does a person change his job?

when n why does a person change his job? i was asking this question to myself.. i was actually, was contemplating on changing my present job...

probably a person changes his job, when he is not satisfied/saturated with his present job, a pestering boss, ur colleagues are bunch of cunning people or fools, u work hard but still ur not recognized for ur work or u r not been given importance etc,..

yesterday, i completed 5 Years working for the present company, after 5 yrs of loyalty, commitment & hard work my counter parts in US, don't seem to be really happy...of course some of them are bunch of assholes, they don't even bother to drop a one liner email wish... this made me think, did i shamelessly worked for the same company for 5 long yrs...was this a mistake!!

of course first 3-4 yrs where good after that it was okay, but last 6 months were pretty boring & testing...we had to merge with a new company, there was this management change n all sorts of things where happening...

in these 5 yrs, i got appreciated for my work, won design awards, best performer award & some sports prizes too.. during this time, i dealt with all sorts of people. . . some really good people i fact some of them are now friends, some cunning people, some boss ass lic*ing people, n besides these, i had one of kind boss to deal with...

my overall experience in this present comapany is a mixed experience, i wouldn't say it was smooth journey... but analyzing things happening around me, the question still remains should i or shouldn't i change my job?

How to Recruit the right person for the Job?

Put about 100 bricks in some particular order in a closed room with an open window.

Then send 2 or 3 candidates in the room and close the door.

Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours and then analyze the situation.

If they are counting the bricks.
Put them in the accounts department.

If they are recounting them..
Put them in auditing.

If they have messed up the whole place with the bricks.
Put them in engineering.

If they are arranging the bricks in some strange order.
Put them in planning.

If they are throwing the bricks at each other.
Put them in operations.

If they are sleeping.
Put them in security.

If they have broken the bricks into pieces.
Put them in information technology.

If they are sitting idle.
Put them in human resources.

If they say they have tried different combinations, yet not a brick has been moved.
Put them in sales.

If they have already left for the day.
Put them in marketing.

If they are staring out of the window.
Put them on strategic planning.

And then last but not least. If they are talking to each other and not a single brick has been moved. Congratulate them and

Hyderabad Traffic

Hyderabad traffic is becoming worst day by day. The number of vehicles in city are increasing at exponential rate, hyderabad has the highest number of two wheelers in whole india.

And, recently the four wheelers are hitting the roads at a faster rate, if you see in the picture there are more cars then two wheelers, there another reason for such an increase in traffic is I.T., more n more I.T. companies are been setup in hyderabad n people are flowing in to hyderabad from all parts of the country. And, besides this, private banks are giving out vehicles loans quickly and at cheaper rate as a result everybody is buying four wheelers.

To cope up with this traffic problem, govt. is building flyover bridges, coz of this the roads have become even more hopeless & driving has become painful. My office is like 24 kms from my home, it used to take me 45 min to reach, now it takes almost 1 1/2 hours.

Michael Schumacher Retires in Style



I'm a Big Fan of Schumi.
Schumi retires in style on sunday in brazil. The last race at interlagos was exceptional, at one point of time he was last one in race, beating all the odds, he finished the race in fourth place, which is phenomenal, only a skillful, determined, great driver can finish in that place from behind.

He is one of the Greatest and Best Formula 1 Driver.
